The TYK Medicines Innovation Team was successfully selected as one of the leading innovation and entrepreneurial teams in the first batch of the “South Taihu Lake Elite Program” in Huzhou City in June this year with the project of “Research, Development, and Industrialization of Anti-cancer New Drugs Urgently Needed in Clinic.” After a successful on-site defense, the team stood out from the fierce competition of many other high-tech projects and was selected as a leading innovative and entrepreneurial team. Dr. Yusheng Wu is the team leader and the main members of the team include Bin Shi, Xiugui Chen, Fang Tian, Chengshan Niu, Apeng Liang, Kaige Ji.

Dr. Yusheng Wu is a pharmacologist, National Distinguished Expert, Distinguished Professor of Zhengzhou University, and Doctoral Supervisor. He earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Iowa State University in 1993 and completed postdoc research at the California Institute of Technology in 1996. Dr. Wu was employed by Schering-Plough’s new drug research and development department, where he made significant contributions towards the development of new drugs for a range of illnesses, including oncology, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and Alzheimer’s disease. One of the innovative drugs for Alzheimer’s disease that he developed and led has reached Phase III clinical trials in the United States. He has been honored New Jersey Minority Contribution Award in 2005 and the Schering-Plough research and development president’s award in 2006. Motivated by the lack of progress in the fields of innovative drugs in China, Dr. Wu returned to his homeland in 2007 to lead s research and development team, with a steadfast commitment, the team dedicated itself to addressing the critical health concerns facing the country through innovative drug development. Dr. Wu has published over 100 Sci literature and holds over 80 patents.

The “South Taihu Lake Elite Program” is a municipal-level talent introduction program implemented by Huzhou City to fully leverage the leading role of high-end talent in the industry, accelerated the transformation and upgrading of the economy, and have been implemented for 11 consecutive years. This talent program focuses on introducing entrepreneurial and leading talent and their innovation teams from both domestic and abroad in key industries such as biotechnology, environmental protection and energy conservation, electronics and information, new materials, and other industrial fields. The policy system mainly consists of “financial support, policy support, and incentive guidance”.

Dr. Yusheng Wu stated that being selected for the project is a recognition and encouragement for the team. The team will continue to increase research and development investments, introduce advanced equipment and high-end talents, and steadily promote the commercialization of research results, making a strong contribution to the upgrading of the biopharmaceutical industry in the province.
